Why Sports Teams Should Not Condition Their Athletes

Sport coaches LOVE fast athletes, yet their “conditioning” promotes just the opposite.

Athletes need to spend their time developing speed, strength, and power. “Conditioning” should come from high intensity sport practices and build deeper into the season.

Conditioning frequently will result in slower athletes, frequent overuse injuries, and athletes “saving” themselves during practice for the grueling running at the end.

Instead develop speed properly, sprint instead of condition, and reinforce proper mechanics and you may just find higher efforts during practice and athletes who truly LOVE their sport. Not to mention, more time to work on the actual skill acquisition of their sport.

More is not better. Better is better. Sprint 1-2x a week as fast as possible, as fresh as possible and you’ll have a faster team that wins more games.
